Digital Portfolio Development II

Prerequisite: Digital Media Development 12 (DMD12)

This non-credit course is designed to provide students who have taken Digital Media Development 12 with the opportunity to develop their portfolio for professional or academic reasons. Digital Portfolio Development II builds on existing skills learned in DMD12 by providing the opportunity to develop real-world applications. There are 3 streams to choose from, or a combination can be completed. Each section will have a set of units for students to complete.

I) Animation

-          Story boarding skills
-          Assessment of animation job market and schools
-          Character design in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and Flash
-          Bringing reality to animations: imagining the human
-          Designing backdrops, settings, lighting using Photoshop
-          Integrating Illustrator, Photoshop and Flash
-          Animation concepts with Flash – realism, weight and gravity, motion, movie clip review
-          Animation concepts with Adobe After Effects
-          Portfolio production of character, storyboard, storyline, animation, introduction, credits, optional online gallery

II) Website Design, Graphic Design for the Internet

-          Designing for the internet
-          Skills of a professional webmaster: how to choose a hosting company, how to build your online reputation, working with clients, customer service, legal issues, copyright issues, ecommerce issues, marketing
-          Colour and website design theory review
-          Using Flash to create complete and compelling interactive websites
-          Flash Components
-          Adobe Exchange
-          Adobe GoLive -- advanced concepts
-          Plugins, fonts and other useful webmaster tools and resources
-          Computer Languages/tools: XML, PHP, MAMBO, scripts
-          Integration of animation, movies, sound design
-          Website promotion and marketing

III) Movie Editing, Creation

-          Introduction to Adobe Premiere Pro
-          Storyboarding, story line creation
-          Integrating Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and After Effects
-          Lighting, movie design, creating realistic clips
-          Integrating Adobe Creative Suite with Adobe Premiere Pro
-          Movie editing
-          Introductions and movie credits with Adobe After Effects
-          Creation of a complete movie, preview for the web and more.

This course is self-paced, project-based and can be done in an e-learning atmosphere. Students will have the opportunity to work and contact their instructor, or other students in their group, online at any time. An emphasis on professional design, marketability and attention to detail will be stressed throughout the course. It is strongly recommended that students enrol in Fine Arts 11 to assist them in their creative development. This is an excellent way to build a well-rounded portfolio to apply to post-secondary digital media, design, animation, and video game production programs.

Digital Portfolio Development Level I

This course is designed to provide art students with the skills to prepare a digital portfolio to add to their existing art portfolio. Digital Portfolio Development builds on existing knowledge of colour theory, line, motion and other concepts learned in the art classes by applying them to graphic/web design, animation ,movie creation and editing.

The course is self-paced, project-based and can be done in an e-learning atmosphere. An emphasis on professional design will be stressed throughout the course.

There are 3 streams: Digital/Website design, Animation, Movie creation and editing

Digital Portfolio Development is set up so that you can build on your existing skills and develop a portfolio for schools or employers.
